Consignment & Thrift Finds: Autumn 2017

In case you couldn’t tell by my blog name: I’m a huge fan of saving a quick dollar. Unfortunately, I’m also a huge fan of shopping.

I’ve been into second hand thrifting for a while now, but let’s face it– as much as I like wading through piles of discards to find a real treasure it can get a little tiresome.

Enter: the utopia that is the Consignment Store.

The beauty of the Consignment Store is that someone has already done the digging for you– meaning that your pieces are still second-hand, but they’re in good enough condition that they can be resold. In other words– you’re getting a high quality, low price second hand item.

Because inventory turn-over can be pretty quick in the second hand business, I try to hit up my local Thrift, Resale, and Consignment Stores about twice a month. Here are my best finds for September!

Betsy Johnson Bag:

  • Retails for: $128
  • Purchased for: $45

Perhaps one of my favourite finds to date is this Betsy Johnson bag. I pretty much fell in love with Betsy’s signature heart stitching and bow detailing. It was originally priced at $55 dollars, but I managed to talk the sales girl into giving me an additional 10 bucks off due to a missing shoulder strap. Found at: Red Pony Consignment in Edmonton.

Michael Kors Rosegold Watch

  • Retails for: $335
  • Purchased for: $90

I’ve always been a sucker for rosegold on anyone else, and when I saw this watch I literally couldn’t resist. Although the watch has a slightly scratched face and desperately needs a new battery, one quick google told me that it was worth it– no need to haggle with this one. Found at: Peacock Boutique Consignment in Calgary.

Random Stallion Sweater

  • Retails for: ???
  • Purchased for: $8.99

This purchase is 100% random and probably the riskiest on this list, but let me explain– I’ve always loved a thick, woollen sweater with animal detailing for autumn, and a piece like this would be perfect for into the holidays. Although this sweater has no labelling (which leads me to suspect it was made by someone’s very talented grandmother or was stolen from a sweatshop) I’ve decided it’s worth its weight in sentimental gold. Found at: Value Village off Whyte in Edmonton.

Forever 21 Necklace

  • Retails for: $11.99
  • Purchased for: $2.99

Although this is another VV find, this one is a lot less sketchy. This piece is actually an exact dupe of a necklace I loved but accidentally gave away inside the pocket of an old Matt and Nat bag during an unfortunate donation incident some 3 years ago. Hell, for all I know it’s the exact same necklace. Found at: Value Village off Whyte in Edmonton.

Aritzia Plaid Blouse

  • Retails for: $65
  • Purchased for: $12.99

In case you couldn’t tell by this post, I’m obsessed with this plaid blouse. It’s pretty much the perfect go-to piece for any fall outfit, and since acquiring it it’s pretty much haunted my instagram posts and snapchat stories. And with over $40 dollars off the original price– can I get a hell yes? Found at: Velour Clothing Exchange in Calgary.
