October 2017: Fab Fall Favourites

October is hands down one of my favourite months– in my home town it usually marks the end of the Autumn and the beginning of a long, cold Winter.

I don’t know about you guys, but this month just completely got away from me. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I’m still getting back in the swing of things after such a fun summer in the mountains— I spent most of October stunned by the fact that it wasn’t still August!

brb, still mentally on top of this mountain.

When I wasn’t busy forgetting what day it was, October actually had a lot of fun in store for me. I spent most of the month catching up with friends, hunting for bargains in Consignment Stores, and hitting up Edmonton’s Brewery district for some retail therapy. I even managed to sneak in a quick trip to Calgary to impose on a couple of besties who live down there– if there’s one thing this broke blogger knows how to do, it’s mooch.

But now it’s time to get back to reality in this crazy city of mine! With only a few days left in October it’s time for me to round off my end of season makeup favourites.

Stila “Eyes are the Window” Palette in Spirit

This month I did my semi-annual purse purge (you know, the one you hate to do when it comes time to change over from your summer to winter bags) and happened upon a gift certificate to LUX Beauty Boutique here in Edmonton. At first I thought it was something the previous owner had left behind (hello, the joys of buying secondhand) when I realised that Emily and I had actually won the gift certificates at an online convocation event– meaning that the gift card had been sitting in my wallet since July.

Naturally I rushed out to get an expensive goodie for my makeup bag, because duh– Treat Yo’ Self!

I’ve always loved Stila but normally can’t afford it– $60 for this palette is way above my standard budget! Of course, it was worth the splurge. These colours are so pigmented and totally perfect for Fall– and the reds will look amazing into the holiday season!

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour(s)

This babies are a summer find that I’ve been working into Fall. We all know I love a good lippie, but it was my friend Jess who introduced me to these beautiful new creations by Revlon!

Seen here, looking fabulous.

Think all the staying power of a lip stain combined with the pigment of a lipstick. One swipe from these bad boys and your lips stay coloured for hours– plus, they’re matte and totally perfect for winter wear!

E.L.F Highlight

Another returning find, this puppy made the list based solely on how much I love it– not to mention the fact that every girl I recommend it to goes nuts for it. I recently ran out of my highlight stock pile and was nervous to reorder (did they change the formula? Would it still work on my skin tone? Would it still last for hours?) and I’m happy to report that this highlight is still the best in the low budget game.

If you haven’t tried any E.L.F products yet you’re missing out– their highlights in particular are super pigmented, meaning a little goes a long way. Put on a little for a natural glow, or layer it on for bolder shine!

Essence “Make Me Brow” Brow Filler

I’m usually a fan of pencils for shaping my brows, but I was surprised to discover how much I love this gel formula. I stumbled across it about a week ago when my brows were going through some growing pains and needed something more natural looking to fill them in.

This liquid formula is light and natural feeling once on, but I think the real treasure is the application wand– the brush is basically like a mascara wand and actually simulates the look of hair when applied to sparser areas. Definitely a game changer!
